OHP Radio – The Worlds Bloodiest History and Joseph Cummins

What a great show. We have the honor of interviewing Author Joseph Cummins about his new book “The Worlds Bloodiest History” – Massacre, Genocide and the scares they left on Civilization. We focus on the story of “The Malmedy Massacre”. Not only that we touch on more: The Boston Massacre, Mountain Meadows Massacre, Sand Creek Massacre and the Colfax Massacre. We pile a lot of information in this fast paced, high impact and informative show. You will want to hear it several times, I promise.

This is the last Saturday show for 2009, but never fear we will return in January 2010 for more stories of our forgotten history. We want to wish you and your family from ours a merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and a record setting 2010.

We will Be Here on Monday Night so don’t miss the Relic Roundup with myself, Butch Holcombe with American Digger and Ian Conway of The Research and Recovery Show. Feel free to join in the topics and give us our input - 678-369-7943 or Skype wesley.c.canderson.

Until next year or Monday folks – have a good one.

OHP Radio - Finding Slavery

Today Butch and I take a look into Slavery, its trade, its past and some items that part of our dark history left behind. You may be thinking that the advent of slavery started when the white man first set foot on North American soil but we take a deeper look into the topic. In this country the focus will always be on the Enslaved Africans and rightly so and Our History Project is proud to engage in the topics of our history and our future. This may seem like a depressing topic but as always we make history fun. So, sit back, relax and join us as we introduce another “In the Dirt with American Digger” sement.

Have a great week,
Craig

Our History Project Board Meeting and the Future

I have plenty of shows to put up, however I wanted this week’s focus to on our board meeting held on Monday, November 9th, 2009. I invite you to listen, give input and offer guidance as we go into this next year. We have accomplished so much in the short time we have been here and where we go from here either has a finite stopping point or will be an unbelievable adventure.

Cassie and I personally are going to step back this week to reflect on the past seven months and get a game plan together for the next physical year which is coming on fast. We have hit a home run on the entertainment side with our shows. That we can see from our numbers and even on 1000mikes.com in just being there 4 short weeks we now hold #3 in the top shows on that site. That says a lot. We have a lot of listeners, made some great friends and for that we are successful.

The other side is the financial part and the funds that will take us to that next level and further our vision and enhance our mission. On that we have had almost no support at all. A few great people have came forward and for that I am grateful, your funds, time resources and gifts have gone to a great cause and every penny was pinched to make it go that much further. Thank you.

Is this project going away? No. There will be some changes coming with a focus on what and how we can remain funded to further our mission and vision. For that I am excited because what it says is that we have put together a winning product and idea. It is like now is the time to get started.

Again, I invite you to listen, give feedback and support. Everyone has heard the JFK speech “Ask not what your country can do for you …”, but few remember the 6th paragraph in that same speech “..United there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures. Divided there is little we can do - for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds or split asunder.”

We are at a crossroads and we want to refocus and put forth our best. Anything less would be an insult to us and to you. It is our contention to focus our time, energy, talents and funds where we can do the most good as it relates to our non-profit venture.

We want your input, that’s why we did this as a non-profit in the first place. The history is ours - The memory is ours - and The future is ours.

This week Butch and I tackle an article which appeared in the Providence Journal “Dig uncovers significant historical site in Narragansett” by Randal Edger that was published on 10-18-09. We take a look at this case between Churchill and Banks and the State of Rhode Island. Listen, give some feedback - and you be the Judge.

Both OHP and American Digger would love to have some comments on this show. It is a subject that affects us all, in one way or another.

OHP Radio - The Bell Witch with Pat Fitzhugh

Folks today we head to the Spooky Side of History. We go in search of the Southern myth and legend of the “Bell Witch” with Author and Historian Pat Fitzhugh. This is one of the most documented haunts in American History, and for good reason. It will not only send some chills down your spine but is also a fantastic story. We invite you to read more about Pat Fitzhugh on our Authors Corner or go over and explore his site and learn more about this haunting on his site www.bellwitch.org. Pat has written some great books on the story of The Bell Witch plus a brand new one “Ghostly Cries from Dixie”, which is sure to be a hit. He tells us one of the stories at the beginning of the show and I throw in a small teaser story at the end. What a way to spend the night!

After listening to our show head over to www.spookysouthcoast.com where my good friends will be telling ghost stories from 10PM-Midnight and you can listen live. So, listen to the Story of the Bell Witch, go grab the candy and sit back and listen to more stories Tim Weisberg, Matt Moniz and Matt Costa while getting ready for bed.

Happy Halloween!

OHP Radio In The Dirt Halloween Special

Today Butch brings us some strange but true stories from the field. A hair-raising good time will be had by all, guaranteed.

A correction - we were talking in the show on the base minimum that OHP needs to operate I wrongly said $3000 and that would be correct with everything combined (software and equipment) doing the very least that we could do. The correct figure for hosting, websites bandwidth and storage is $1650 yearly just to maintain the space. As you can see this leaves no room for growth, projects or general operating expenses (lights, phone, rent etc.). As you can see we need your help to keep this project going. Any amount will be helpful and you can donate or sign up for a membership, supporter or sponsor on our website or just contact me craiganderson@ourhistoryproject.com .

Our Grant writing will start soon so if you have experience in this process and could either volunteer to write or to review Grants that we write, please let us know. In November we will be on the 50 State National Registry which is required by most Grants.

So, keep your eyes and ears open for us on historical or art related grants.

Monday

Our Relic Round Up Show #2 was a complete success again. Thanks to all that stopped by. There was some minor problems with skype on the call-in’s but we did have a good turn out. OHP Radio - Eric Hammel - Where did it all come from?

The story starts: A German Officer get up from bed on the morning of June the 6th 1944 and looks out of his observation post. What he sees is an ocean filled with ships, men, aircraft and he has a feeling of dread.

The question we try and answer today is "Where did all this come from?" We explore what America did pre-war to bring about all that was seen that faithful morning. The planning, the companies, the material, the training and the foresight to bring it all together.

Bestselling Author Eric Hammel joins us again today to give insight on what this meant not only for our Troops but on the Home Front as well. To learn more about Eric Hammel and his books visit his Bio page here or visit his site Eric Hammel Books. Eric is a regular here so we have a lot of information on him, he has over 30 books to his credit with more on the way. We want to thank Mr. Eric for always being there.

OHP RADIO - Captain Dale Dye

We are joined by Captain Dale Dye (USMC Ret.). If you do not recognize the name I’m sure you will know the movies – Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Band of Brothers are just to name a few. Dale Dye is an actor, director, advisor and so much more. We credit him with bringing the real story to Hollywood and putting the realism into the movies we see. Capt. Dye is the real deal – 3 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star and several other medals of distinction. If anyone knows what it should be, he is one that can tell you from firsthand experience.

Also, starting this week you can purchase HQ copies of the show. The cost is $5 per CD. A $2 shipping charge will apply but only to one of them - so you can order 50 copies and still only be $2 shipping. AND, YES - IT'S TAX DEDUCTABLE!

All shows will still remain free online (no change there). All the shows we post are recorded at 48 bits and these CD's will be at 192 bit, Just a cleaner sound. The difference is also the size. We try and keep the downloads under 30MB in size while the CDs do not limit the size for audio.

We are just thinking of ways that we can provide a product at a low cost to you to help fund our Nonprofit Mission. We will be building our past shows so if you want a specific one let me know and I'l work on those first.

Any questions drop me an email at craiganderson@ourhistoryproject.com

Archeologist and Metal Detectorist Working Together?

In the Dirt with American Digger Segment –

Wow, it’s great to be back….and rested.
This week Butch and I explore just a little bit of what could happen if professional and amateur archeologists and amateur metal detectorist were working together. How much we could accomplish together and what impact would it have on our history and research?

I do want to say now that this is happening more and more, especially in the southeast and both sides are seeing the benefits.

OHP Radio "In the Dirt with American Digger" - A New War Is Waging!

On today’s show we find out that Craig has been studying again, and that can only mean trouble, but we do learn some interesting fact about WW I and a story that is too good about WW II. Butch on the other hand brings us the tale of a whole new war that is being waged “in the trenches” you might say and it going on right now. Which side will you fall on? And, no its not political, we’re nonprofit and can’t go there.

OHP Radio - Digging at the Museum!

If you think what is in the yards and fields where you hunt are great finds, it doesn’t compare with what you can dig up at your local museum. No, we are not condoning taking a shovel or a detector and you do have to go during the day, but we are saying get off the couch and out the door. Go visit!

I bet there are a lot of folks who have not explored you local flavor of history. I’m no exception in this either. I went for years traveling the country and seeing all I could see and never looking around at what is here in front of me. Yes, I hit the biggies but not the smaller places. What I found is I missed a lot and you would be surprised at what can be found if you just take the time to look.

Folks, these are hard times and a lot of these local, county or regional historic places are closing- Maybe for a day, maybe two or maybe forever. Don’t let our history disappear lets go visit.

Have a great week,

Winner Announcement

This is the letter sent out for the Offical Announcement. We will have more contests later on this year. As I said we may have had some suprises in store.......we did.

Thanks to all our listeners and the letter while it may not have your name on it, is written for you too, its from the heart and I wanted to share it with you.

Guys,

Thanks for playing and as always thanks for listening. This project would be no where without ya. It is hard to believe that we have came so far in just a short time August 28th will mark our 5th month anniversary, yes 5 months. We have had a lot of gracious things said about our show, by not only fans but our industry as well. Please continue to help us spread the word about Our History Project and our efforts as a nonprofit organization bent on persevering and educating America on our history. That sounds a little funny to me because we have a lot of overseas listeners as well that I am in contact with.

Do me a favor, over the next couple of weeks can you burn 10 disks (CDs) and hand them out to others who may not have not heard the show? Any one of the shows will do.

It would help us get the word out so to speak. Tell everyone about us and if you have suggestions, comments or criticisms please let me know. You are the rock on which this project is formed because you are some of the first here and if we screw up we need to know. If we can make it better then we need to know that to.

Before we get started I want to thank all of our sponsors that made this possible, please visit them often so we can have more events like this in the future:

John Rigdon - www.researchonline.net

Mark Owen - www.hallowedgroundartifacts.com

John Walsh - http://www.fortdonelsonrelics.com

Butch Holcombe - www.americandigger.com

Ian Conway - www.researchandrecoveryshow.com

Ok, here is what everyone's waiting on….Drum roll please!

1st place: Mark H. from AL. : Grand prize as we mentioned with the exception of Mark we upgraded the cuff eagle to an Eagle I Button and the southern papers to the complete OR on CD. Woohoo! That is courtesy of John Walsh at Fort Donaldson Relics.

The race was close, very close in fact under 5 minutes close, so remember when I said there may be more to the contest than what you thought well - yep there is.

2nd place goes to Steve F from VA: This include the Eagle cuff button, what I believe is a bullet puller/extractor , a cut bullet, a book, a Research & Recovery DVD, OHP Membership and last but not least the Southern Papers (52 Vol. set) On CD!

Good Job Guys!!!! Your both winners!

And, its not over yet - Remember I said don't stop there may be something more…… Yep there was!

3rd place goes to Mike from TN: You get a book and a one year Membership!

And

4th place goes to: Ed from GA who also gets a Book is now a card carrying member of Our History Project!

Fakes, Collecting and Research Special Guest Ric Savage.

Butch and I are joined by Wrestling Legend and advocate of uncovering the fakes in the collecting market Ric Savage. You can visit Ric’s site Savage-Station for a more in-depth look into this area and see his column in American Digger Magazine in each issue.

Ric, talks about how he got started in uncovering the seedy side of collecting. Also, we get into what and why you should really collect anything. Butch also covers a large list of reference books that you need to have on hand.

All this poses and interesting question – How many millions of dollars are thrown out by Mom’s across America? And how many thousands of dollars did you willingly destroy as a kid?

This week was a great one, a tiring one. It was one where everything did not work out as planned on Saturday because for whatever reason the first part of the morning did not record. We missed a great in the dirt segment and some interviews with Mark Hudson, Arthur Cook and Bill Yarborough. The good part is that Butch and was joined by Cassie and we did another one on Sunday, which is what you will here today and I know all of the above mentioned to get their stories again.

It was a great show and I really had a blast. Thanks to all that came out especially Mark and his crew from Southeast Treasure Hunters that came from Alabama. It was a pleasure to meet everyone and we hope to do it again soon.

It’s a Revolution and we are not talking about the Beetles! This past weekend I went on vacation and got to explore the Battlefields of Kings Mountain and Cowpens and get back to the part of history that I am not so well versed in. I learned a lot and the learning did not stop when I got home. Butch knowing that I was off to seek adventure in the 1700’s pulled out a story for my return.

In our "In the Dirt with American Digger" segmet this week we learned:

The origins of the Hillbillies and/or Rednecks may not be what you expect. Join us and hear the true story. Also, you can take the Tours of the battlefields with me as I post the shots I took while on the road. I will post them on our Forum: http://ourhistoryproject.lefora.com/forum/

Our History Project - In the Dirt with American Digger - 06-24-09

Folks, this week Butch and I did not solve the world’s problems or really made a difference in anyway. But, we did have a great time and you will learn a lot. From Relic Shows to Laundering Money to how much of a difference you make in Our History Project. It’s all there.

Take a drink of water before listening and this is one that driving while listening is not recommended. Be ready to laugh. Come on and spend 30 minutes with us you will not be disappointed with this one.

Oh, there is a giveaway on this one (The Illustrated Directory of The Old West, by William C. Davis) so listen and find out how you can win. A chance to win something and a good time, what more can you ask for?

OHP - On The Air

I want to thank Tim Weisberg, Mat Costa and Mat Moniz for inviting me on to Spooky Southcoast Radio WBSM 1420 Saturday night and letting me talk about Our History Project. We talked history but they have an awesome paranormal show if that is up your alley. Listen to the show Saturday’s 10-midnight, the station has an online stream of the show. This coming week they will be discussing the Bridgewater Triangle and the King Philip’s War.

Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” – Getting Started in Metal Detecting: The Beginners Guide

This week we on Our History Project’s “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment we host what you would call the Beginners Guide to the Hobby of Metal Detecting. From the stores, to the machines, to the places to hunt. The contacts, groups, strategies and more, it’s all here.

So if you have ever had the question asked of you your asked just to yourself – “What do you find with that thing?” Or better yet –“How do I get me one?” Then this show is for them - or you.

Our History Project is Nonprofit and open sourced, we promote Preservation and Education of our history, and as I have always said – “That starts with you!” – and in this show we will tell you how.

If you would like this show hosted by a player on your site or your business site send me an email and I will supply the code, it’s free. It will put a player on your page just like we have on ours (nothing to install and nothing goes on your server). If you would like I can even take off the opening comments (just let me know). The main goal of this episode is to promote our hobby in a positive light and give a basic foundation on which to grow. Bringing new blood into our world of research, history and preserving artifacts can only increase our understanding of the past.

Pass this show around folks!

Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” Wednesday

Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” Wednesday

Our new format is going to put the “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment to be released on Wednesdays. This is a popular part of our program and well; I have a great time with Butch. There are many times when we ramble about the important part of relic and treasure hunting and times we just spend having a good time. This new format will allow time to be spent on the things that matter (information and how to’s) without the small time constraint we were on.

Most segments will still be 15-20 minutes in length but it will give us the additional time when needed, to go longer.

Enough of the Explanation! On with the Show!

This week we learn about “Bottle Hunting”! What it is, how to do it, what to look for, what tools to bring and the do-s and don’t-s.

This is something I have never tried but I know it is very popular in some circles and I do know that there are plenty of collectors out there. Come and join us as Butch introduces us to the sport (?) of “Bottle Hunting”.
